Walter de la Mare's poem “When the Rose is Faded” speaks hopefully to the tragedy of loss, and it immediately captivated my attention with its humanity, universality, and emotional sincerity. The work premiered at the Ithaca College Choral Composition Competition as a top-six finalist in 2016.
